Is Magic For Everyone?

Is magic for everyone? Well… maybe not everyone, but if your gut reaction is “eh, probably not for me,” you might be in for a pleasant little surprise. If the last time you saw a magician was at a birthday party where a rabbit looked mildly confused and a balloon sword popped in your face, I’ve got news for you: magic has grown up a bit since then, and so have you. Just like you probably don’t binge the same cartoons you loved as a kid (no judgment if you do), there’s a big difference between magic designed for children and magic crafted for adults. These days, it’s less “pick a card, any card” and more “wait…how is that even possible?”
And here’s the fun twist, you’re actually better equipped to enjoy magic now than you were back then. As a kid, sure, everything felt magical because the world itself was still new. But as an adult, you understand how things should work, which makes it all the more delightful when something completely breaks those rules right in front of you. It hits differently. It’s not just “wow,” it’s “WAIT, WHAT?!”
I often tell people who sit there squinting at me, trying to crack the code like they’re defusing a bomb: “Hey, I’m not trying to make you feel dumb. I’m trying to make you feel like a kid again!” Magic isn’t a test. It’s not homework. It’s an experience. Think about it: you don’t watch a movie and spend the whole time wondering how they lit the scene or stitched the costumes (unless you’re really into behind-the-scenes extras). You just enjoy the ride. Same with music, games, or a great story.
So give yourself permission to lean in, loosen up, and let a little wonder sneak back in. You don’t have to believe in magic to enjoy it, you just have to stop trying to outsmart it for a few minutes. Who knows? You might walk away grinning like your 9-year-old self…minus the balloon sword trauma.
